Doing Mediocre Work Comes From a Lack of Self-Respect…
This line from David Goggins hit me right in the chest.
I read this line the other day that hit me right in the chest.
We’ve all heard the idea, “how you do anything is how you do everything.”
But it has always felt somewhat vague. Surely there are some things that matter less than others, right?
Here’s a more impactful way to say the same thing:
“When a half-assed job doesn’t bother you, it speaks volumes about the kind of person you are.”
The author continues…
“Until you start feeling of a sense of pride and self-respect in the work you do, no matter how small or overlooked those jobs might be, you will continue to half-ass your life.”
There are things like waiting to do the dishes the following morning or turning in a concept draft with errors in it, that we all know are “half-assed.”
But are they actually just signs of a lack of self-respect?
For me, reading this line at the right time and the right place, has created a shift in me. Sure, you can debate the logic and continue down your current path...
But if you simply accept it, do everything to the best of your ability, then you are suddenly the type of person who does everything to the best of their ability.
Suddenly, you can start keeping promises to yourself. Keep an exquisite home. Finish your most ambitious projects. Be the type of person who never misses a self-imposed deadline.
Earn respect from the best version of yourself, and suddenly you become the best version of yourself.
