Advice from the first millionaire I ever met that has stuck with me for 20 years.

If only I had done it sooner…

I was maybe sixteen the first time I realized I was asking advice from a millionaire.

He may not have been the first one I ever met, but it was the first time it was clear to me I was talking to someone who thought different.

We talked about several things.

One thing that stood out to me was his clarity on creating a crystal clear vision for the future.

I wish it was something I thought about daily, but more than likely, it was something that popped in and out of my mind every so often.

The basic idea was to think about how you would spend (or re-invest) the amount of money you wish to make.

Back then, it was likely frivolous non-sense, but maybe not — as I never spent too much time on actually implementing the idea.

Now, there’s been points in my life when $1,000 a month was more than enough.

Back when I was backpacking in Oregon or running a newspaper and living on a friend’s couch.

But as you get older, things change.

Responsibilities change.

Your overhead is naturally higher. And you want to provide for those you love most.

So, today, when I think about how I would spend what seems like an impossible amount — 4x my normal income — it looks sort of like this:

Monthly bills and investments**

At the heart of these expenses, I want to provide for my family, take back my time, and serve others.

Hopefully this gives you some ideas of how you might spend your own “improbable amount.”

Because when you start to break things down like this, they feel more real — more attainable.

It’s not impossible. It’s not improbable.

You just have to have a plan, move towards that plan every single day, and not give in to the temptation to backslide or settle for “good enough.”

If you’re tired of settling for “good enough,” we should talk. Learn more about what I do right here.
